David is the newest member of the Church in the Falls staff. He joined the team in August, 2011. David preached his first sermon from his father’s pulpit while he was still in high school. He later felt God’s call on his life to commit to full time ministry in 1994. Since that time, he has done many types of ministry, and preaching has been an essential part of every one of them.
Prior to moving to Ohio, David served the US Air Force as an Active Duty Chaplain for 8 years. In this capacity, David preached at the base chapel; lead worship; provided counsel and support to command, airmen and families; supported hurting families during death notifications; deployed Airmen and was deployed himself to both Qatar and Iraq. He served as a “visible reminder of the Holy” to many in harms way and at home. He currently serves as an active member of the Air Force Reserve. Prior to the AF, David was a hospital chaplain, an Urban Family/Worship Minister in Memphis and an Urban Preaching Minister in Louisville, KY.
Throughout David’s ministry, he has developed and conducted worship teams; facilitated Financial Peace University for 345 families, chartered and led Awana clubs for 500 children; created a minister accountability group and an airmen mentoring program; counseled 2,300+ airmen and families; supervised staff members; and performed numerous weddings, funerals, and baptisms
David graduated from Harding University in 1998 with a B.A. in Bible and Religion, and he obtained his Master of Divinity from Harding in 2001. In 2003, he completed a one-year Clinical Pastoral Education Residency at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.
David says his wonderful family is his greatest asset, and his wife, Julie, is “The best part of the team.” They have been married for 16 years and they have three beautiful children. Dawson (age 11) is their little movie producer, Carter (age 8) is their little engineer, and Genevieve (age 5) is the quintessential ballerina.
Julie has an impressive list of accomplishments as well. She has been central to many children’s ministries and a full time teacher. She directed two thriving Awana programs and was a Children’s Minister for Cordova Community Church of Christ in Memphis, TN. She also taught special education in a Memphis Inner City elementary school. She is kind and caring and a good counselor. Their family is a wonderful addition to Church in the Falls
